World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like crit chance and PvE Damage. For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will suffer 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value). The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the item's level. Components Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to give them a stat boost or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors, trading or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects. Upgrade components can be inserted into equipment with a slot for them. The item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level for a component to be used. In contrast to other mods components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with new upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that can be used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns. A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, which alters the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, allowing players make stronger versions of the equipment with the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods. A 'boost upgrade' can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or by getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear, even when they're not sure what will be improved following the reset. The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it's possible that the item will be obsolete, or even break, in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when an upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that double or even eliminate chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give the benefit of being reinserted into an item. Glyphs Glyphs are upgrade components which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes within the area around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs are upgraded in many ways, and we recommend upgrading them to 15 levels as soon as you can. In the final game, you will often find that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded up to level 15 and provide an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board. The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without restriction. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit. Each Glyph has a particular range of values that can enhance a stat by. The value is shown when you select the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph. Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts. Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you'll need them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that can boost a particular set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph. Glyphs will boost all nodes that are connected to them, therefore it is best to put Glyphs in the most important spots on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. For example an Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage points, however, you may also want to think about placing them near crucial damage nodes, too. Leveling The upgrade system of items allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by adding upgraded components. This is known as “upping”. Each upgradeable item comes with an amount, which determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level requires a different amount of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is leveled up. Certain upgrades require a certain ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you'll be able to claim your upgrade and get its extra bonuses. When an individual player improves the equipment they have the original item will be replaced by a new item. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This could be a drawback in that it could cause the item to become more expensive if you do not need it. The upgrades to items can be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do this. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful, but should not be used frequently as it could waste resources. Certain upgrades can increase their value and allow players to modify their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, since it grants an increase in power if the player repeatedly enters or leaves the water. This item can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is very useful in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of its unupgraded counterpart. Requirements The upgrader for items lets players increase the level of their equippable equipment (armor weapons, weapons, and trinkets) beyond ilvl385 by handing over the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon equipment will increase the base damage and required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements. All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, except for hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade a piece of equipment, it is at risk of failing. The probability of failure increases as you go over the maximum number. Failures can cause the item to revert to its original state, requiring the player to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades. If an item is not upgraded, the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned like the chance to crit damage to attack, other effects (such as increased heal over time, or reloading speed). The player is able to use their weapon or armor after the failure. When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any damage to attack increases. A new attribute known as Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is computed every time an upgrade is made.
